High School Opportunities

The National Youth Science Camp is a residential science education program for young scientists the summer after they graduate from high school. Students from around the country are challenged academically in exciting lectures and hands-on studies, and have voluntary opportunities to participate in an outdoor adventure program, gain a new and deep appreciation for the great outdoors, and establish friendships that last a lifetime.

NASEP is a free year-long program designed to provide Native American high school students with a vision of a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field; connects students with academic professionals and industry representatives from STEM related interests; and catalyze the student's motivation to complete chemistry, physics, and pre-calculus before graduating high school. Through one-on-one college preparation coaching with university affiliates, building a computer from its essential components, interactive workshops, and family events, students learn how to effectively prepare for the college admissions process, receive important information about academic success, and are exposed to different STEM career paths. The introduction to the year-long program begins in the summer, with interactions continuing throughout the year via email, phone call, text messaging, mail, and social media that can be accessed through their awarded technology device. A few of the yearly opportunities outside of the summer experience have included college and scholarship advisement, conference attendance, and networking with STEM professionals.

The major activities of the NNE JSHS are to conduct a program in which selected high school students can present the results of their original research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in either an oral or poster session. Students have an opportunity to meet other students from the northern New England regions with similar interests in STEM research, visit research laboratories at the University of New Hampshire and speak with professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) provides an opportunity for students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer.
